Coal is a steer who was born the third week of January 2011, just before the death-freeze in February plunged the temperature to 30 degrees below zero. Jeff feared he would loose the little calf and did everything in his power to keep him warm and well against the bitter cold. The record-breaking freeze was tough on all the animals so Jeff fed hourly to keep them internally warm. Coal is a Brangus/Santa Gertrudis cross and is one of the largest cows on the ranch.
