Ruby, is a Thoroughbred sorrel ex race horse, born in 2009. She came with two other horses Jasmine, and Pumpkin on January 29, 2022. These horses share a similar story with of course some differences personal to them.
Their story starts when we got a call from a man who was getting a divorce. He had these horses and was unable to take them with him to New York. He started looking for a good home for them and checked online for sanctuary’s in the area and found the Masleña Ranch. We had to ask a friend to help us obtain the horses and we were also given three blankets that fit these tall mares. When Ruby and her pasture mates arrived they were very thin, and we started them on a strict diet of Chaffhaye, multiple pelleted food, alfalfa, and grass.
Pumpkin and Jasmine are old friends now on the 22 acres. Ruby is on the 2 1/2 acres since she gets very stressed out on the big land. Her friends don’t come up much anymore so we keep her with some of the moms and older horses. Ruby really enjoys one of our volunteers who is 14 and both connect with each other. Ruby is easy to halter, and we are still working on putting more weight on her.
